Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1938

Jake Gideon JESSIE CHARLES "JAKE" GIDEON, 97, passed away Feb. 9, 2021, with burial in Pecan Cemetery. Jessie (Papa Jake) epitomized the spirit, resilience, & will of the greatest American generation. He was born Jessie Charles Gideon on Sept. 14, 1923 to John and Gertrude (Todd) Gideon, in Ranger, TX. The 3rd of 4 children, Papa Jake grew up in the midst of the Great Depression, learned, and practiced trade skills in CCC Camps. He attended Ranger High School in the Class of 1938. Upon the U.S. entrance into WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, volunteered for hazardous duty on the Submarine USS Plunger in the Pacific. After the war, he moved his family to Notrees, TX, working for Cities Service (Citgo)/Occidental Oil Company as a roustabout, pumper, gang pusher, and production foreman, retiring after 40 years of service. He moved to Alvarado, TX to spend his retirement near his family, and was an active member in VFW Post 9299, and the American Legion Post 426, both of Alvarado. He cherished his family, and the many friends he had throughout his long, & accomplished life. Papa Jake was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Murle Jean (Gilbreath), whom we lovingly called Mimi. Both his parents John and Gertrude (Todd) Granny Gideon, his youngest son Johnny Glen Gideon & daughter-in-law Yvonne. His brothers George, & Steve Gideon (RHS-1944), & his beautiful sister Gay Nell Gideon Daskevich (RHS-1940). His nephews Bob Daskevich (RHS-1967) and Gary Bagwell. Papa Jake is survived by his eldest son Charles Edward, and his wife Patty Gideon, his 5 grand- children, Lucretia, and husband Barry Wolverton, Todd, and wife Chrystal Gideon, Teri Lynn Gideon, Johnna Gay Gideon, & her husband Robert Strittmatter, Edward Lee, and his wife Dr. Wendy Gideon. Great- grandchildren Bearett, and wife Jennifer Wolverton Seth, and his wife Janea Wolverton, Steven Gideon, Jacob (Jake) Gideon, and Mason Gideon. Great-great- grandchildren Jennaleigh Wolverton, Jude Wolverton, Gideon Wolverton, & Solomon Wolverton. His brother- in-law Billy, and wife Raye Nell Shelton. nephews Bill Gideon, Clyde Gideon, Ron Daskevich (RHS-1961), Carl Gideon, & David Shelton. Nieces Sandy Jo Kinman, Sharon Latimer, the always beautiful Gay Ann Daskevich Wolford (RHS-1959), and numerous beloved friends. WIFE: MURLE GILBREATH GIDEON, 82, passed away on Nov. 25, 2006, with burial in Pecan Cemetery, just outside Purves. She was born in Purves to William Truman and Delza Gilbreath on Jan. 27, 1924. She married Jesse Charles "Jake" Gideon (RHS-1938) on May 13, 1942. She was preceded in death by son, Johnny Gideon; and her parents. Survivors: Husband, Charles "Jake" Gideon; son, Charles Gideon; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers.
