Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1940

GEORGE TOMMY GUESS, 66, was born on January 1, 1923, and died November 12, 1989, while living in Fort Worth. He was in the Ranger High School Class of 1940 at Ranger, TX and was the son of G.A. Guess and Winnie Pearl Newnham Guess of LaCasa community near Ranger. His brothers & sisters were Bill Guess, James Edward Guess (RHS-1945), Mary Frances Guess (RHS-1945) and Inez Guess (died as a toddler from diphtheria). He married Mary Ann Hathcock. Mary Hathcock Guess WIFE: MARY ANN HATHCOCK GUESS, 86, passed away peacefully on Feb. 14, 2016 with interment at Colony Cemetery near Ranger, TX. Mary Ann was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Ranger, TX to Charles & Nannie Hathcock. She joins in heaven her parents; husband of 41 years, George T. Guess, Sr. (RHS-1940); daughter, Eva Kay Guess; and brother, Pete Hathcock. Survivors: Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jo Ann Woodrich & husband, Bill, Tom Guess; grandchildren, Billy Woodrich, Bradley Woodrich, Robert Guess, Diana Hall and husband Brandon; great- grandchildren, Chloe and Lillie; siblings, Joy Key, John Hathcock and wife, Winnie, Buster Hathcock and wife, Betty; nieces, nephews and extended family; and many dear friends. DAUGHTER: JO ANN GUESS WOODRICH, 70 of Ft. Worth, TX, passed away Nov. 20, 2021 in Ft. Worth, with burial in the Colony Cemetery near Ranger, TX. Mrs. Woodrich was born April 1, 1951 in Ranger to George Thomas Guess, Sr. & Mary Ann Hathock. She married Woody Woodrich in July of 1968 in Sabinas Hidalgo, Mexico. She was a bookkeeper. Survivors include her husband; 2 sons, Billy Woodrich and Bradley Woodrich; brother, Tom Guess, Jr.; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild Bill & Wanda Guess BROTHER: BILLY "BILL" GUESS, 85, of Ranger, TX, went to be with his heavenly Father on Dec. 22, 2009, with burial in Macedonia Cemetery in the La Casa Community near Ranger, TX. Bill was born Oct. 2, 1924 in the La Casa Community north of Ranger to G.A. "Austin" Guess and Winnie Pearl Newnham Guess. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George "Tommy" Guess (RHS-1940), James "Bud" Guess (RHS-1945), and sisters, Inez Guess (died as a toddler from diphtheria) and Mary "Sis" Guess Cloman (RHS-1945). Bill may have attended Ranger High School but his class is unknown. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wanda Myrl Sturm Guess and two sons, Ronny Guess (RHS-1967) and wife, June of Ranger and Billy Guess (RHS-1970) of Ranger. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jenny Guess Mabery (RHS-1989) and husband Brandon of Tolar, TX, Randi Guess Chappell (RHS-1991) and husband Bram of Murfreesboro, TN, and Jason Guess (RHS-1994) of Ft. Worth, TX and five great-grandchildren; Taylor and Reagan Mabery, and Bailey, Conner and Hayden Chappell. Bill was a World War II veteran receiving the Purple Heart Medal, serving our country during the European Theater with Company L of the 11th Infantry. Returning to Ranger after the war, he entered a 45 year oil field career employed with Fryer and Hanson Drilling Co., Midland, TX; Lummus Drilling Co., Ranger, TX; Loffland Drilling Co., Farmington, NM; Verna Drilling Co., Levelland. In 1970, Bill also bought and operated the family business, Guess Texaco Service Station (Guess Service Center) which is still in operation today. After retiring from the oil field in 1986, he farmed and ranched, cutting and bailing hay until the age of 81. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Ranger, TX, Mayor of the City of Ranger, fifty year Mason, member of Eastern Star and an Eastland County Water Board director. Bill enjoyed many years of square dancing, loved working in his garden and being with his family and friends. Now he's really enjoying the good "life" with our Savior. NOTE: His wife, Wanda Myrl Sturm Guess, 88 of Ranger, went to be with her heavenly Father on Feb. 3, 2019. Wanda was born Oct. 23, 1930 at Gunsight to Paul J. Sturm and Sonoma Mounts Sturm. She graduated from Morton Valley High School. She married Billy “Bill” Guess in 1948 and they enjoyed 61 years together. She is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Wince Graham, Jr. and Johnnie Graham; and 2 sisters, Modell Gann and Imogene Gaylor.
