JERRY BOB GREER, 66, longtime Eastland County
businessman, went home on Aug. 26, 2004 after
a lengthy illness, with interment in Evergreen
Cemetery at Ranger, TX.
Jerald Robert Greer was born April 19, 1938 to
Holcomb & Minerva Greer in Ranger, TX. He was
baptized into Christ on Nov. 20, 1949. He
graduated from Ranger High School in 1956. In
1960, he received a Bachelor's degree in Business
from Abilene Christian University. Jerry Bob
married Pat Halliday (RHS-1958) on New Years
Eve in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army for
two years and worked for the Tandy Corp. in
Fort Worth, TX, before returning to Ranger.
In 1966, Jerry Bob purchased his parents' western
wear and boot repair store. Over the years, he
tripled the floor space of the business and in
1981 purchased an additional store in Eastland,
TX. He was elected to the Ranger Jr. College
Board of Trustees in 1976, where he served for
28 years.
Survivors at the time of his death include his
wife, Pat, and their children; Gini (RHS-1981)
and husband Arthur May of Midland, Gregg (RHS-
1984) and wife Karen Greer of Hewitt and Leslie
and husband Tim Pitts of Eastland. Beloved
grandchildren include; Robby & Arthur Lee May;
Brandon, Nikki, Jessica and Caitlin Greer; and
Tim, Travis and Ellie Pitts.
Jerry Bob lived in Ranger most of his life and
treasured many life-long friends. He was born
on Main Street in Ranger and lived on Main St.
until he went to college. He kept a business
on Main Street for 38 years. He sometimes jokingly
referred to himself as "The Main Street Kid".

FATHER: JAMES HOLCOMB GREER, 75, was killed on
June 6, 1985, when his tractor was struck by a
pickup truck in Ranger, TX. He was born Dec. 4,
1909 on a farm east of Eastland. Later, Holcomb
and his brother, Chip, operated a shoe repair shop
in Ranger for a few years. Holcomb married Minerva
Ellen King who had moved to Ranger during the oil
boom. He expanded his business and started making
hand-made boots. Later, he developed a western
wear and saddlery business. In 1966, his son,
Jerry Bob (RHS-1956), bought the Greer's Western
Store. Holcomb began a cattle and goat ranching
operation working 4000 acres of land at one time.
