Ranger Exes Memorial-TX - RHS Class of 1958 50th Anniversary in 2008-Pg.1 of 3

58home08_00 The big 50th reunion for the Class of '58 began early for some, as a few of the classmates began to arrive in Ranger on Thursday. Rehearsals for the program for Friday evening started that evening and the story-telling began!! Friday morning, the majority of people present at the gym early were members of the Class of '58, and the fun began in earnest. We visited all day on Friday and received help from a number of classmates in setting up the display of door prizes for the Exes' Association meeting. Friday evening we assembled at the Lone Cedar Country Club for a seafood buffet. During the course of the evening we had a tribute to our departed but still beloved classmates with the singing of "Moments to Remember" by Jimmie May (Miller) Galbreath and Judy (Craig) DeVoll, a moving verbal tribute by Dale Cozart, and the placing of red roses in a crystal vase as each name was read and the classmates stood and joined hands. Jerry Price was the master of ceremonies for the evening and had the class officers, annual staff members, and favorites who were present to stand and be recognized. Don Deffebach awarded certificates of appreciation and a small star pin to the persons responsible for the planning and execution of the reunion this year, followed by a thank you to Jeralyn Sledge, widow of our classmate Lanny Sledge, for taking pictures for us that evening. He then offered a gift and thank you for Kay (King) Tibbels, Dale Cozart, and Judy (Craig) DeVoll for setting up reunions through the past years. Jimmie May entertained us with her beautiful voice and songs that were popular during the 50s and later. Richard Spindle read the class history that he had written in 1958 and Judy read the class prophecy. The festivities continued into Saturday when a large group of our class attended the Exes' Association meeting. Four of our class members were installed as either officers or board members for the coming two-year term, headed by Dale Cozart as president. We then went over to the Mesquite and Rusk Church of Christ building for a delicious brunch hosted by Mary and Hal Pugh, assisted by Tommy Walton and his wife. Then we went to the high school for class meetings and pictures. In the evening, we were all invited to the Comanche Wind Ranch at Cisco, which is Dale and Carol Cozart's beautiful place. We were treated to a dinner of barbecued brisket and chicken, twice-baked potatoes, salad, hot rolls and strawberry shortcake and brownies. Together we viewed a DVD which had been prepared by Richard Spindle which documented the history of the class through the school years and ended with pictures of most of us as we are today. It was quite professional in quality and the content was amazing and nostalgic. We all ended a wonderful weekend together with the promise to meet again at the home of Jerry and Sue Price in Spring, Texas, next summer. There were 27 classmates present for most of the weekend, and that's not bad with 14 who have passed away. Pictures will be or have been posted of our group on the website. If you have trouble identifying anybody, let me know, and I'll help you out.
