DAVID ALLSUP, 80, of Ranger, TX, died May 26, 1993, with
burial at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger.
Mr. Allsup was born Jan. 22, 1913, in Enloe, TX, to Van
Buren & Era Mae Kerbow Allsup. He was a graduate of the
Naplels Texas High School. He married Erma Sue Loper
in Oct. of 1942. He was a Veteran of WW II, serving
with the Army's 77th division in the Pacific Theatre. He
received his teaching certificate from East Texas University
in Commerce, a MA from the University of Texas at Austin,
National Science Grants throughout the U.S. He served with
the Texas National Guard in Brownwood, server as VA instructor
to Veteran Farmers in Bowie County for 12 years. He moved
to Eastland County in 1957 and was Professor of Biological
Sciences for Ranger Jr. College from 1957 to 1978.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ranger
where he served as Treasurer of the United Methodist Men, he
was also a member of the AARP, 77th Division Association, The
Disabled American Veterans, The Senior Citizens Group in Ranger,
and The Ranger Lions Club.
Survivors at the time of his death include his wife of 50 years,
Erma Sue Allsup of Ranger; a daughter, Sandra Owen (RHS-1962) of
Arlington; a son, David Allsup (RHS-1970) of Ranger; a daughter-
in-law, Joan Allsup; a son-in-law, Maurice Owen (RHS-1962); three
grandchildren, Brando Owen, Jessica and David Kyle Allsup; a
step-grandchild, Debbie Lynn Ensor of Longview; 2 step-great-
grandchildren, Chasity and Chelsea; a brother, Keith E. Allsup
of Douglasville; two sister, Doris Sutton of Ouray, Colorado,
Neysa Best of Dallas; a sister-in-law, Verlma Allsup of Nocoma;
and many nieces and nephews and friends.
WIFE: EMA "SUE" LOPER ALLSUP, 93, went home to be with her
Lord in Heaven, May 05, 2017 with her loving family by her
side, with burial at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX.
Erma Sue was born May 19, 1923 in Oak Grove, TX at home near
Atlanta, TX to Frank Earl & Mary Catherine Owens Loper. She
attended Kildare High School where she played basketball. In
Oct. of 1942, she married David Brice Allsup at Bryans Mill.
Erma Sue was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, so what
better choice could she make than to be the owner & seamstress
of Sue’s Fabric for 24 years. She made uniforms for the Ranger
Jr. College girl’s basketball team and quilts for her precious
grandchildren. She was also very active in the community. She
served for 21years in the TX Extension Education Association,
58 year member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a member of the
Methodist Women, and a member of the Garden Club.
Erma Sue is preceded in death by her parents and her loving
husband David. She is also preceded in death by her son, David
Orle Allsup and a daughter Brenda Elaine, brothers: Carl Loper,
Otis Loper, Frank Loper, Billy Loper and Ralph Loper and a
sister, Mary Alice.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra Owen of Arlington, TX,
a brother Charles Loper and wife Sharon of Hollywood, CA,
sisters: Pauline Carnation of Texarkana, AR, Jessie Mae Brown
and husband Bobby of Carrolton, TX, and the loves of her life
– five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-
great-grandchildren & a special mention of the brother-in-law
who was more like a brother and best friend, Keith Allsup of
Douglassville, TX.
